Sirius Minerals Invited as Keynote Contributor to Youth Climate Leadership Symposium at COMESA Headquarters

Sirius Minerals continues to expand its voice within sustainability and development conversations after members of its executive leadership were invited to participate as keynote contributors and panel speakers at the Youth Climate Adaptation Leadership Symposium (YCALS) hosted in Lusaka.

The symposium, held at the COMESA Headquarters, brought together youth leaders, policymakers, climate advocates, development stakeholders, and private sector representatives to discuss climate adaptation, sustainability, economic resilience, and youth participation in Africa’s future development agenda.

Sirius executives Dr. Botlenyana Ncholo and Mr. Mweene Mweemba were formally invited as featured speakers in recognition of the company’s growing engagement in conversations surrounding sustainability, responsible economic development, and innovation-driven solutions for Africa.

The event was organized by the Green Agriculture Youth Organization (GAYO) and attracted participation from youth organizations, environmental stakeholders, government representatives, and international development actors. According to the invitation, key discussion themes included climate financing, gender inclusion, climate adaptation, and strategies for bridging the gap between climate mitigation and sustainable economic growth.

The symposium was further supported by high-level participation from representatives connected to the Government of Zambia, environmental ministries, agricultural stakeholders, and the Indian High Commission.

At the time of the engagement, Sirius Minerals was still in its early development stages - prior to the formal conception of the Sirius Mineral Trade Platform (Sirius-MTP™️). However, the company had already begun positioning itself within broader discussions around responsible mining, sustainability, community impact, and Africa’s long-term resource governance future.

The participation reflected Sirius Minerals’ early belief that Africa’s mining sector could not be separated from larger ESG conversations surrounding environmental stewardship, social inclusion, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic participation.

During the symposium, discussions explored the role of emerging African enterprises in contributing toward climate-conscious industrial growth, responsible resource utilization, and innovation-led development pathways capable of balancing economic opportunity with environmental responsibility.

The engagement also highlighted the increasing importance of including mining stakeholders within sustainability and climate adaptation discussions, particularly as Africa continues to play a growing role in supplying minerals critical to global industrialization and energy transition markets.
