Sirius Minerals Joins Zambia Ministerial Delegation to Ghana to Advance Mining Innovation Collaboration

Sirius Minerals participated in a high-level ministerial innovation and technology exchange mission to Ghana in April 2026 as part of an official delegation led by Zambia's Ministry of Technology and Science.

The visit formed part of ongoing bilateral engagements between the science, technology, and innovation ministries of Zambia and Ghana aimed at strengthening collaboration around emerging technologies, digital infrastructure, entrepreneurship, and innovation-driven economic development across Africa.

Sirius-MTP™️ was selected by the ministry as one of the promising Zambian innovations with potential regional application beyond Zambia, particularly within mining economies seeking greater transparency, traceability, and formalization within the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.

The Zambian delegation was led by Hon. Felix Mutati (MP) and was officially received by Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) alongside Ghanaian government stakeholders and innovation ecosystem representatives.

During the visit, Sirius Minerals presented the use case and strategic vision of the Sirius Mineral Trade Platform (Sirius-MTP™️), highlighting its application as a digital infrastructure layer capable of supporting mineral verification, traceability, compliance, and structured trade participation within ASM ecosystems.

Discussions in Ghana particularly focused on the growing importance of traceability within the gold sector, where governments and industry stakeholders across Africa are increasingly seeking systems capable of improving visibility, reducing illicit trade flows, strengthening responsible sourcing practices, and supporting formal market integration.

As part of the engagement, Sirius Minerals also held discussions with the Ghana Gold Board, a strategic institution involved in the oversight, coordination, and development of Ghana's gold industry. Conversations explored the potential application of digital trade and traceability infrastructure within Ghana's ASM gold ecosystem, as well as opportunities for continued collaboration moving forward.

The engagement reflects a broader continental trend toward modernizing mineral trade systems as African countries position themselves to capture greater value from critical minerals and responsibly sourced commodities.

Beyond gold and digital trade infrastructure, the delegation also visited a local lapidary institution in Accra, where discussions extended into gemstone value addition, skills development, and regional knowledge exchange.

Sirius Minerals identified opportunities to leverage Sirius-MTP™️ not only as a mineral marketplace and traceability platform, but also as a digital knowledge and training ecosystem capable of facilitating virtual lapidary education, gemstone cutting expertise, and cross-border skills transfer between Ghana and Zambia.

The company believes such initiatives could contribute toward strengthening Africa’s downstream gemstone industry while creating new economic opportunities for youth, artisans, and mining communities through specialised training and digital access to expertise.

According to Sirius Minerals, the Ghana mission reinforced the importance of regional collaboration in building interoperable African-led systems capable of supporting trade integration, responsible sourcing, innovation exchange, and industrial growth under the broader vision of the African Union and AfCFTA era.

The participation also further positioned Sirius-MTP™️ as an emerging pan-African mining technology solution with potential applications across multiple mineral-producing jurisdictions seeking to modernize and formalise their ASM sectors through digital infrastructure.
