Sirius Minerals recently participated in discussions hosted by the Zambian Business Angels Network (ZBAN) focused on Access to Banking Finance, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, financial institutions, and ecosystem stakeholders to explore solutions for improving access to capital for underserved sectors of the economy.

The discussions highlighted one of the most significant barriers facing Zambia's artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector - the absence of formal financial records, verifiable production histories, and structured business data required for investment readiness and access to traditional banking products.

As part of the engagement, Sirius Minerals explored how the Sirius Mineral Trade Platform (Sirius-MTP) could contribute to building the foundational digital infrastructure necessary to improve financial inclusion within the mining sector.

Through miner onboarding, cooperative registration, production tracking, transaction histories, and trade visibility, Sirius-MTP aims to support the creation of credible operational profiles that can help financial institutions better assess risk and identify bankable mining enterprises.

The company believes that improving access to finance will be a critical enabler of growth for Zambia's ASM sector, allowing miners and cooperatives to invest in equipment, improve productivity, strengthen compliance, and participate more effectively in formal markets.

According to Sirius Minerals, closer collaboration between banks, mining stakeholders, and digital trade platforms will be essential in unlocking investment opportunities and building a more inclusive and financially accessible mining ecosystem for Zambia's emerging mineral economy.
